The final Report of the Citizens’ Assembly on Gender Equality was laid before the Houses of the Oireachtas.
At its final meeting on 17-18 April 2021, the Assembly agreed 45 priority recommendations covering a wide range of areas set out in its Oireachtas mandate. These include recommendations on the Constitution, politics and leadership, care giving and childcare, domestic, sexual and gender based violence, pay and the workplace and social protection.
Speaking after submitting the Report, the Chair of the Citizens’ Assembly Catherine Day said:
“I am pleased today to submit the report of the Citizens’ Assembly on Gender Equality to the Oireachtas. The report comes out of more than a year’s hard work and informed consideration by the members. I want to pay tribute to our committed citizens who have given their time to the important issue of gender equality, despite the disruption caused by Covid-19.
The Report includes background to the members’ voted recommendations as well as some detail about how it conducted its work, including the transition online due to Covid-19. As Chair, I have also included some personal reflections on the process.
I hope the Oireachtas now moves without delay to considering the Report and advancing its recommendations to deliver gender equality for Ireland.”
