About the Dublin Citizens’ Assembly (2022)
The Dublin Citizens’ Assembly was formally established by resolutions of Dáil and Seanad Éireann in February 2022. In line with the Programme for Government commitment, the Assembly was tasked with examining and bringing forward proposals regarding the type of directly-elected mayor and local government structures best suited for Dublin. The Assembly had a total of 80 members, including an independent Chairperson, 67 randomly-selected members of the public living in Dublin City and County, and 12 Councillors selected from across the four local authorities. The Assembly was launched in April 2022, and met on five occasions between April and October. At its final meeting on 1st October 2022, the Assembly voted on a series of propositions that were the culmination of careful deliberation and debate, informed by detailed input from experts, stakeholders and the general public.
